AUTONATOMY · ENGINE PERFORMANCE · UNIT 2 · LESSON 5

Hard Starting: Cold vs. Hot

Same complaint, different starting conditions. Compare the engine before cranking, during cranking, and after a successful start. Find what changes with temperature and soak time.

Mission briefing · The Challenger

Four drivers report extended cranking. Select a service ticket, compare cold soak, immediate warm restart, and 20-minute hot soak, then gather at least two discriminating test results. Choose the supported fault and next action; explain what your evidence rules out.

Training simulation, not an OEM diagnostic procedure. All measurements and faults are invented for a generic gasoline engine. A slow crank and a normal-speed crank require different diagnostic paths. Fuel-pressure and electrical tests on actual vehicles require approved tools, safe procedures, and OEM specifications.
