This module uses fictional/normalized storage values and broad fuel-property relationships for teaching. It does not provide fill pressures, venting/depressurization procedures, fuel specifications, tank inspection limits, leak-test methods, high-voltage isolation steps or authorization to service a specific alternative-fuel system. Use exact vehicle service information, carrier-specific training, approved tools/PPE and facility procedures.
Start with the energy carrier before comparing the technology
Course 14 begins with the properties that make fuels and stored-energy systems behave differently. The goal is not to memorize a winner; it is to understand the tradeoffs among energy per mass, energy per volume, ignition/chemical behavior, physical state, storage architecture, conversion efficiency and safety.
Ask what each property actually tells you
Change mass-energy, stored density, tank volume and conversion efficiency
The values below are fictional teaching inputs chosen to demonstrate relationships. They are not real fuel specifications and must not be used for tank sizing, fueling or service decisions.
*Teaching values only. Effective stored density intentionally collapses pressure/temperature/phase behavior into one fictional input so this lab cannot be used as a real fueling or vessel calculation.
Identify the carrier, control the hazard, then interpret the evidence
Ordered fuel/energy-system workflow
Complete the sequence in order.
Evidence
Best supported conclusion / next step
10-question knowledge check
Property knowledge does not authorize alternative-fuel service
Use approved training aids/vehicles and exact service information. Observe identification, units, calculations, storage-path tracing, hazard recognition and service planning—not invasive work on an energized/pressurized system unless separately trained and authorized.
