Transfer-case and axle-path explorer
Choose a component to examine how the selected torque path, shift request and actual axle engagement can differ.
Four 4WD power-flow journeys
Virtual lab · transfer case range and torque path
Fictional part-time truck only: this model has a rear-drive 2H path and mechanically coupled front and rear outputs in 4H and 4L. It does not model a center differential, electronically variable torque split, wheel grip, actual drivetrain losses or approved mode-change conditions. Never use these figures as OEM specifications.
What reaches each path?
Select whether the independent front-axle disconnect is engaged in this fictional training truck. A transfer-case front output and a connected front axle are not the same observation.
An engaged path does not prove usable tire traction or any fixed front-to-rear torque split. Do not infer a real vehicle's mode applicability from this classroom example.
Diagnose · four fictional shop cases
Open evidence in any order. Do not make a final diagnostic decision until the essential findings have been inspected. Try again if your first choice is not supported.
Six quick shop decisions
Knowledge check · ten questions
Answer every question before scoring. Each answer receives an explanation. A quiz score is online knowledge evidence only.
Instructor-observed skills · printable worksheet
This worksheet is for a supervised, actual-vehicle session. The instructor must supply the correct OEM 4WD operating and service information and decide whether each item is observed. Online scores do not prefill this form.
Readiness and stop-work review
Observed performance (not an auto-grade)
