Cylinder Head & Valvetrain Explorer
Explore eight component groups, their functions, loads and service considerations. Layout and service requirements vary by engine.
Four-Stroke & Camshaft Journey
Explore four idealized stroke phases across 720° of crank rotation and 360° of cam rotation; actual valve-opening and closing angles vary by engine.
Valve Timing Lab · 720° Conceptual Cycle
Move the crank angle and watch a simplified piston and valve-state model. The cam turns one revolution while the crank turns two. Toggle an illustrative overlap example to see how valve events may extend across stroke boundaries.
The Challenger asks
With the crank at 720° and the cam at 360°, what happens next in the conceptual four-stroke cycle?
All event angles and valve lifts are illustrative. The overlap example uses invented ranges (intake −20° to 220°; exhaust 500° to 740° on a repeating cycle). Real engines may have different overlap, variable timing, or alternative valve events.
Valvetrain & Timing Diagnostic Challenges
Six fictional cases focus on evidence, engine-specific research and stop-work decisions. They do not diagnose actual engines.
