Intake & Exhaust Component Explorer
Explore eight airflow components or groups and how their purpose differs with engine architecture.
Four Airflow & Diagnostic Journeys
Compare a naturally aspirated path, a generalized turbocharged path, an intake restriction, and an unintended opening.
Charge Comparison Lab · A Simplified Gas Model
Explore how absolute intake pressure and charge temperature affect a relative gas-mass index in a fixed reference volume. The ideal-gas relationship is mass ∝ absolute pressure ÷ absolute temperature when gas composition, volume and assumed filling factor stay fixed.
Reference state: 100 kPa absolute and 300 K. Fixed reference volume and assumed filling factor; real VE, control response, gas composition and temperature distribution are not calculated. This is not a boost target, intake specification, torque prediction or diagnostic pass/fail threshold.
The Challenger asks
At the same absolute pressure and fixed reference volume, why does the idealized relative mass index fall as charge temperature rises?
Airflow & Mechanical Breathing Challenges
Six fictional shop cases teach evidence-led diagnosis rather than guessing at a sensor, turbocharger or mechanical component.
06.4 · Knowledge Check
Answer all ten questions to record a browser-local knowledge score. The result is not a measured engine diagnosis or observed hands-on assessment.
