Block & Rotating Assembly Explorer
Explore eight major component groups, their loads and functional relationships. Each description is conceptual; component fit and replacement requirements vary by engine.
Crank–Rod–Piston Motion Journey
Follow four positions through one conceptual crankshaft revolution. A four-stroke operating cycle needs two revolutions, but piston down-and-up motion repeats each revolution.
Crank Motion Lab
Move the crankshaft through one conceptual 360° revolution. Watch the piston, wrist pin, connecting rod and crankpin move together. One 360° revolution produces down-and-up travel; a four-stroke combustion cycle uses two revolutions.
The Challenger asks
With the rod tilted at 90° of crank rotation, has the piston always traveled exactly 50% of stroke?
Fictional geometry: 45 mm crank radius and 160 mm rod length. All positions are for visual explanation only, not for measurement or engine service.
Bottom-End Service Reasoning Challenges
Six fictional cases require evidence-based decisions about wear, oil use, bearing concerns and engine service. These cases do not diagnose actual vehicles.
